Figure D23: Natural Killer (NK) Cell Activity in Animals (PFOA and PFOS)
Natural killer (NK) cell activity
NK cell activity presented as either % activity (cytotoxicity of YAC-1 target cells) or lytic units. Note: Fair (2013) reported no association between serum concentrations of PFOA, PFOS (or other PFCs tested) and natural killer cell activity in wild dolphins (data not shown in original publication). PFOA:
- Vetvicka (2013) study present the only animal data on this endpoint.
- Keil (2008) data [in blue] were exposed during development; all other data from adult exposures.
- Keil (2008) authors reported that NK response from animals tested at 4-weeks of age was not effected by PFOS treatment so presented as male and female combined. NK data from animals tested at 8-weeks of age were presented separately.
- Black Line separate PFOA top and PFOS bottom
- Red symbols are reported as statistically significant
