Figure D29: Hypersensitivity - Airway Response Measures

Airway response
Fairley (2007) reported increased AUC for airway hyperreactivity to OVA with dermal PFOA exposure
Ryu (2014) tested multiple airway measures of hyperresponsiveness following methacholine challenge with oral PFOA and PFOS exposure
  • Airway resistance, airway sensitivity, tissue damping (peripheral tissue resistance), tissue elastance (indicating stiffer lungs requiring greater work for breathing) were all increased with dietary PFOA exposure. Only airway resistance and tissue dampening are shown here.
  • Note the same endpoints were not elevated withe PFOA and OVA exposure
  • PFOS exposure was not associated with changes in airway sensitivity measures or OVA-associated airway measures

DISPLAY NOTES
  • Black Line separate PFOA top and PFOS bottom
  • Dashed Orange Lines separate different measures of airway response
    • hyperreactivity
    • airway resistance
    • tissue damping
  • Red symbols are reported as statistically significant
