Figure D07: Antigen-Specific IgG Antibody Response (PFOA)

Antigen-specific IgG antibody response (PFOA):
  • Smits (2013) data [green] are from birds (avian IgY is analogous to mammalian IgG); all other data from mice.
  • Smits (2013) antigen is KLH; all others from SRBC or HRBC.
  • Note that Hu (2010) reported no effect on IgG antigen-specific antibody titre (SRBC) in female offspring after developmental exposure to 0.5, or 1 mg PFOA/kg body weight to C57BL/6 mice dams in drinking water from GD 6 to GD 17 (data not presented so they cannot be graphed).
  • Yang (2006) antibody data not included because antibody data reported in Table 4 are identical to data in Table 1 Yang (2002b).
  • Vetvicka (2013) ovalbumin-specific (OVA) antibody data not included. Study reported suppression of OVA-specific antibodies in female mice (20mg/kg PFOA via gavage for 3 weeks); however, exposure compared to positive control (OVA+Freund's adjuvant), not against vehicle control. Antibodies measured by ELISA -unknown if antibodies were IgM or IgG.
DISPLAY NOTES
  • Orange Line separates antibody data measuring IgG 1)primary response (after single challenge) from 2)secondary response (challenge + booster).
  • Black Line separates antibody measurement methods: 1)ELISA to measure circulating antibody titres or levels in most studies from 2)PFC (plaque-forming cell) assay to count antibody secreting cells in a single study Yang (2002b)
  • Red symbols are reported as statistically significant
