rat water NaF Developmental Thirty-two post-weaning Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups each of eight (female:male=3:1). The control group was fed with standard animal food and deionized water; high fluoride exposure group was fed with standard animal food and deionized water containing NaF at a concentration of 100 mg/L; low iodine exposure group was fed with low iodine animal food and deionized water; high fluoride-low iodine exposure group was fed with low iodine animal food and deionized water containing NaF at a concentration of 100 mg/L. The dosing period lasted for 3 months. After establishing the exposure model, female and male rats were placed into the same cage during the nights for reproduction. Female rat’s vaginal plug specimen test was conducted in the next morning, if result was positive, it is considered as Day 0 for pregnancy. The offspring rats were treated the same as their parent generation.; The animal model of chronic fluorosis was established by feeding Wistar rats on distillated water containing different concentrations of sodium fluoride (control group: 0 mg/L, low fluoride exposure group: 50 mg/L, medium fluoride exposure group: 100 mg/L, and high fluoride exposure group: 150 mg/L) for six months. In addition to the water, all the rats were fed with standard animal food.
