Healthy, adult female albino mice (Mus musculus) of Swiss strain, weighing between 30 and 35 g were obtained from the National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH), Ahmedabad, India, under the Animal Maintenance and Registration No. 167/1999/CPCSEA from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India and Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals, Chennai, India. The animals were divided into thirteen groups as shown in the experimental protocol table. They were housed in an air conditioned animal house at a temperature of 26 ± 2º C and exposed to 10 to 12 hr daylight/day. They were maintained on standard chow and water (0.6–1.0 ppm F) was given ad libitum.
